Somnath, meaning 'Lord of the Moon', is the first Jyotirlinga among the 12 sacred shrines of Lord Shiva. Located on the western coast of Gujarat where the Kapila, Hiran, and Saraswati rivers meet the Arabian Sea — a spot known as Triveni Sangam. The temple has a glorious and tumultuous history, having been destroyed by invaders multiple times, yet rising each time with greater magnificence. The current temple was rebuilt in 1951 under the initiative of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Situated on the Arabian Sea shoreline at the Triveni Sangam — sunrise and evening aarti here is a spiritually overwhelming experience.
Built, destroyed, and rebuilt 17 times over thousands of years — Somnath symbolises the unbreakable faith of devotees across the ages.
As the first among 12 Jyotirlingas, Somnath holds the highest significance — beginning your Jyotirlinga yatra here is considered most auspicious.
The famous arrow pillar (Baan Stambha) on the shore points straight to Antarctica — the first land mass directly south, a marvel of ancient knowledge.
A spectacular sound and light show every evening narrates the temple's epic history — a must-watch experience for every visitor.
Taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam near the temple is believed to wash away all sins and grant divine blessings.
